Since the year 2000, “Mambo This!” has been inspiring dancers
all over Northern California. At festivals, clubs, weddings and private
parties, this eight piece horn band has been kick’n out their own
irresistible brand of Afro-Cuban Salsa. Drawing on the deep well
of traditional Cuban music, “Mambo This!” uses original arrange-
ments full of harmony and polyrhythms to create a unique and
exciting sound. Their extensive repertoire also includes originals,
Latin Jazz, Calypso, and Boogaloo.
The members of ”Mambo This!” come from a wide range of
musical experience. Most of the band has been playing profess-
ionally for 25 years or more, drawing from a wealth of knowledge
and experience in Jazz, Rock, Reggae, Classical, Funk, West African,
R&B, Klezmer and more. Personnel includes Dan Albrecht on key-
board, bongos, lead vocals and coro, Steve Davidson on congas,
Jim Dooley on trumpet, flugelhorn and coro, Michael Hubbert on
cuatro (a small Puerto Rican guitar), tenor sax, clarinet, lead vocals
and coro. David Lipkind on bass, Richie Rosenbaum on drum set,
and percussion, Karl Schoen on flute, baritone sax, percussion and
coro, and Roscoe Tuomala on trumpet and coro. With so many
possibilities of instrumentation the sound of “Mambo This!” can
vary from small son-conjunto to a full on Salsa band.
